Time: 1-3 hours a week. How long, when and where is all decided by the tutor and learner.

Help Required: Most clients are looking for very basic computer help. Most clients want to learn how to: set up e-mail accounts, send an e-mail, search the internet, navigate the world wide web, type, use Microsoft Word and Excel. Learners usually know exactly what they want in terms of computer help, so it is usually very easy to help them.

Skills Needed: A basic understanding of computers is a must for computer tutors. By no means do you need to be a computer expert, but you should be familiar with Word, Excel and e-mail programs. Someone who uses a computer regularly at work or home is well qualified for tutoring.

Computer literacy is becoming more and more important as it becomes a requirement for most new jobs. Because of this the demand for computer lessons is increasing. Many seniors are also looking to learn computers in an effort to stay connected with friends and families. These clients have had very little exposure to the computer and need very basic instructions and very patient instructors. The advantage of teaching computers, is that there are tons of resources available for use. Prepared lessons are readily available on the internet and in the library; these are great for following along with a learner.
