GED Tutor

Time: 1-3 hours per week. How long, when and where is up to the learner and tutor.

Help Required: The GED student is trying to get his/her high school equivalency, which means they'll need assistance in reading, writing, math at approximately a grade 11 level.

Skills Needed: Reading comprehension, spelling, essay writing, science, social studies and math are all components of the GED test. However, a tutor does not need to be specialized in all these areas in order to be an effective GED tutor. The social studies and science components are largely reading comprehension, so a tutor must only have the most basic knowledge of the subjects. The math part is the most challenging component, but is still only at a grade 10-11 level, which means multiplication, division, addition, subtraction, geometry, fractions, decimals and VERY BASIC algebra.

The GED stands for General Educational Development test, successfully passing this test gives you a high school equivalency diploma. The test that has five components: essay, reading comprehension, math, science and social studies. The test is offered 2-3 times per year at Yukon College with the entire test is written over a 2 day period.
