Board Member

Time: 1-3 hours per month. Meetings are held at 5:30 pm at the YLS Board Room. See YLS Activities to find the next meeting date.

 

Help Required: Board members are accountable for the governance and management of   the Society. Directors are expected to keep informed of Yukon Learn   Society activities and guide the Society toward decisions that are in the   best interests of literacy throughout the territory. As a board member   you should be prepared to review all materials, ensure funds are spent   efficiently, discuss activities conducted and vote on motions to establish   practices that ensure the effective management of the Society.

 

Skills Needed:   A basic understanding of literacy is important since board decisions are   driven by a literacy focus. Directors from all walks of life are valued as   the Society is involved in a variety of activities from fundraising to   tutoring to promotion. Directors need to be willing to take a position on   board matters, comply with the Bylaws of the Society, attend meetings   and functions and try to keep informed of literacy issues.
