CAIRS
Time: Mondays from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM. It may be possible to change days, however arrangements must be made with Kevin Barr, the Executive Director of CAIRS and Nora Peters, Yukon Learn Society Education Centre Coordinator.
Type of tutoring: At CAIRS you will helping clients fill out forms and other types of short term assistance. Some clients will likely be looking for help completing resumes and applying for jobs. A huge part of being at CAIRS is interacting with the clientele and making them aware of the services available at Yukon Learn. Occasionally you might be asked for more specific tutoring help, in which case you can refer to Yukon Learn for resources and assistance.
Skills Required: The outreach volunteer at CAIRS must be comfortable meeting new people. A general awareness of First Nations culture is an asset in this situation.
CAIRS stands for Committee on Abuse in Residential School Society and was originally set up by the Aboriginal Healing Foundation. It offers culturally appropriate programming, such as beading, moccasins and knife making. The centre is open five days a week with different programming every day.
